About Katrina

I have been interested in pregnancy, childbirth and babies since high school. I took all of the child development classes in school. Due to circumstances, I moved in with my sister and brother-in-law for the last 2 1/2 years of high school. When I moved in, she had about five months left in her second pregnancy and when I moved out, nephew #3 was a couple of months old. I had moved out of state, but chance had brought me back for a short spell. This was great timing as I got to see my fourth nephew be born. I do not have children of my own yet, but would love to when the time is right.

Upon learning what a doula was, I felt a strong urge to pursue that career. "This is the path for me," I said to my husband. I knew I would love working as a doula, but when I actually got my feet wet with my first client, my passion flared and proved that I have the instincts to help women through an important time in their life.

Currently, I am a certified labor doula and certified childbirth educator with CAPPA. In the future, I would love to become a midwife.

For a bit of my non-doula professional background, I have worked as a Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA), a department head at a popular craft and fabric shop, in clinics as a medical records clerk and administrative assistant and more than 10 years in the Clinical Research field as a data entry specialist, computer tech, safety officer, and trainer.

In addition to my interest in pregnancy and childbirth, another reason that directed me to this career path is to help educate and empower women and their partners. Before I started down the path to become a doula, I was very limited in my education and personal experiences (of friends and family). I had a very narrow base for what I thought was normal. Now, my field of vision has opened up immensely. I believe everyone should have the information available to make the choices they feel are important to them. Unfortunately, the obstetric world can be biased and does not always provide the "full story" to women and their partners.

Everyone woman has different beliefs, needs and wants. I work closely with my clients to help them achieve the birth that they want and not a birth that was chosen for them.

I look forward to working with you.

"My overall experience was wonderful and I feel that it was because of my doula and her support! I would like my friends to have the birth experience that they really want and Katrina helps you accomplish this." (G.B.)

"Thank you sooo much! Without you I wouldn't have been able to stick to my goal of no epidural and wouldn't have had such a great experience." (C.B.)
