Just for Dads
Congratulations Dad-to-be!All throughout pregnancy, the women are always asked how they are doing, but rarely are the dads asked. I believe that the dads are just as important. They are going through a lot of changes and fears too. It isn’t easy for them to watch their beloved go through the pain of labor.
As a doula, I will be there to work with the dad, not take over. He can provide emotional support on a level that I cannot touch. He shares a bond with the mother so strong that nobody could replace. Together, we can provide amazing support.
As a doula, I will be there to fill in when he is unable. This may be because he is not comfortable with certain techniques or is not sure what to do at different times of labor. It may also be because he needs to take a restroom break or grab a bite to eat or even grab a few Z’s.
As a doula, I provide comfort for the dad. I am experienced in handling labor and birth while keeping a cool head. I work to keep everyone calm. You will also have no guilt if you need to take a break since I will stay by the laboring mom’s side while you are away.
As a doula, I provide encouragement to the dad. This may be with verbal praise or a high-5!
As a doula, I can empower the dad. I can help show him different relaxation techniques to use on the mom and make sure he is comfortable with it. And when things change in labor, there will be another technique to be learned.
As a doula, I will help dad if he needs a "gopher" to get things or even a shoulder massage if he gets a little too tense. (Warning: shoulder massages can only be done in between contractions and ONLY with mom’s permission.)
